SRINAGAR: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Tuesday carried out a major enforcement drive across the city, demolishing multiple illegal structures and sealing several commercial establishments found violating municipal laws.
The action, taken on the directions of the JMC Commissioner and under the supervision of the Joint Commissioner (RE) and Deputy Commissioners (North and South), was executed by the Corporation’s Enforcement Wing as part of an intensified campaign against unauthorised construction and encroachment on public land.
During the drive, JMC teams demolished a cluster of illegal jhuggis in the Ware House area near the Fourth Bridge, removing encroachments that had come up without permission. Enforcement officials also acted against an unauthorised construction site at Malik Market near Wave Mall, where illegal shuttering was being used without the mandatory building approval. The shuttering material was demolished and removed from the site.
In a separate operation, the Corporation sealed multiple commercial units found operating in violation of municipal norms, including unauthorised construction and alleged change of land use. Two shops were sealed in the Roop Nagar area, while four shops were sealed in Patta Bohri.
The JMC said the drive underscores its resolve to strictly enforce building bylaws and ensure adherence to the approved master plan and building permissions. It warned that any construction or commercial activity carried out without due approval will invite strict action, including demolition, sealing and prosecution.
Urging citizens and developers to comply with municipal regulations, the Corporation said such enforcement drives will continue across Jammu to curb illegal construction and encroachment within municipal limits.
