It was a huge dancing crowd to receive eight-year old Tajamul Islam, Kashmir’s first World Kickboxing champion. As her father escorted her home after more than 50 days of absence, a few thousand residents had assembled to welcome her.
Tajamul won the gold medal in the World Kickboxing championship in Italy hopes thus making her first ever sportsperson who won an international award. Her runner up was an American.
As her father Ghulam Mohammad Lone and mother Kulsum kissed her back home, hundreds clapped. The family has pitched a tent where people are coming to congratulate, having tea and leaving.
A class II student of the Army run Goodwill School in Bandipora, the sub-junior World Kickboxing Champion was earlier received by Chief Minister and governor. They gave her cash reward of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000, respectively. Even the army chief facilitated her in Delhi on Thursday.
A number of family friends are relatives had actually descended to Srinagar to receive the youngest sportsperson of Kashmir. They took her home in a cavalcade.
Seemingly, Tajamul was enjoying every moment of the function. She danced with the crowds in her courtyard as hundreds of people were recording it in their cell-phones.
Though it was very difficult to talk to her, because of the crowding at her home, she was heard saying that she has to prepare for kickboxing competition in Bihar. Interestingly, her sister is also competing in the same championship.
