Civilian protesters staging demos against the Kakapora killings on Friday clashed with forces in Sopore town of northern Kashmir’s Baramulla district after congregational prayers.

Witnesses said that youth took to streets and staged protests against the killing of a civilian in forces’ firing in Kakapora area of Pulwama district yesterday.

As the youth tried to march towards main chowk from Jamia Masjid area, police and paramilitary personnel lobbed tear gas shells to disperse them.

The youth pelted stones in return, triggering clashes.

Meanhwhile, clashes also erupted in Hajin town of Bandipora district after Friday prayers.

Witnesses said that hundreds of youth assembled near Jamia Masjid Hajin after prayers and shouted anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.

As the march proceeded youth hurled stones on army goodwill school which was retaliated by tear gas shells by forces.

This led to clashes between youth and forces in the area, they said.

The clashes were going on when reports last came in.

Pertinently, pro-freedom leaders had called for protests against the recent killings at the hands of forces.
