SRINAGAR: In its ongoing drive against drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday arrested two alleged drug peddlers, including a housewife, in separate operations in Baramulla and Awantipora districts and recovered narcotic substances from their possession.
In Baramulla, police arrested a woman identified as Rozia Begum, wife of Shabir Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Fatehgarh, after she was found carrying a charas-like substance weighing 153 grams. Acting on specific inputs, a checkpoint was established by the Sheeri Police Station team near STC Sheeri. The woman was intercepted and taken into custody after the contraband was recovered. A case under FIR No. 38/2025 has been registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is in progress.
In another operation, Awantipora Police arrested Faizan Farooq Allie, son of Farooq Ahmad Allie of Kadlabal Noorpora, after 4.40 grams of a brown sugar-like substance was allegedly recovered from him at a checkpoint at Charligund. The operation was led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Awantipora, under the supervision of DySP (Probationer) Atif Zahoor. A case under FIR No. 152/2025 has been registered, and the investigation has been initiated.
Police have urged the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or drug-related information to the nearest police station or by dialling 112. “We reiterate our commitment to act firmly against drug peddlers and safeguard the youth from this growing threat,” a police spokesperson said
