SRINAGAR: Amidst the forecast of light snowfall until Thursday morning, the maximum temperature rose across Kashmir on Wednesday.
Director of the Meteorological Department, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that light snow is expected at isolated higher reaches tonight and early tomorrow morning.
He added that there is no forecast for any significant weather activity until January 19, though the weather will likely remain generally cloudy from January 17 to 19.
On January 20 and 21, the weather is expected to stay mostly cloudy, with a possibility of light snow in isolated to scattered places. Dr Ahmad further noted that on January 22, there is a likelihood of light rain in the plains of Jammu and snow at scattered to fairly widespread locations.
In an advisory, the MeT Department has urged tourists, travellers, and transporters to adhere to administration and traffic advisories.
Meanwhile, day temperatures increased across Kashmir today, with Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recording a maximum temperature of 11.0 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination, recorded 7.5 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund registered a day temperature of 10.8 degrees Celsius. Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded 11.3 degrees Celsius, and Kokernag reported a maximum temperature of 7.6 degrees Celsius. (KNO)
