SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Valley remained in the grip of severe cold, with most areas recording sub-zero night temperatures, while conditions in Ladakh were even harsher as the mercury plunged further below freezing.
According data presented by Kashmir Weather, Shopian was the coldest location in the Valley at –4.2°C, followed by Pulwama, Budgam and Baramulla, each registering –3.1°C. Srinagar recorded a minimum of –2.4°C, while Srinagar Airport dipped to –3.2°C.
Other key temperature readings included Gulmarg at –2.5°C, Bandipora at –2.2°C and Sonamarg at –2.8°C. Only a few places, such as Kulgam (0.8°C) and Kokernag (0.1°C), remained marginally above freezing.
In the Jammu, temperatures were comparatively milder. Katra was the warmest at 9.6°C, followed by Jammu Airport at 9.0°C and Jammu city at 7.9°C. Cooler conditions persisted in the higher reaches, with Rajouri recording 1.8°C, Udhampur 2.0°C and Bhaderwah 2.6°C.
Ladakh continued to experience extreme cold, with Leh dropping to –6.2°C, the lowest in the region. Kargil recorded –5.0°C, while Nubra Valley settled at –3.7°C.
The Meteorological Department has advised residents to take necessary precautions amid the persistent freezing night temperatures.
