The 3rd Edition of Kashmir World Film Festival (KWFF) begun on Tuesday at Tagore Hall here.

Dr Nirmal Singh, speaker Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly was the chief guest on the occasion while Director Radio Kashmir Srinagar Humayun Qasir was guest of honour. Dr Heena Bhat, chairperson North Zone Khadi village industries commission of India was also the guest of honour.

The other film celebrities who graced the occasion with their presence include Rajit Kapur, Arun Raje Patil, Gauhar Raza, Komal Nahta, Ashok Kaul while the actor Kishore Bhanushali enthralled the audience with his live performance.

Bollywood actress Preeti Sapru and film actor Parvez Masood were felicitated for their outstanding contribution in the Bollywood.

The films that were screened on the first day of the festival include Life is Beautiful (English), Spring Comes to Kashmir (English), Mehram (Hindi) and Kaba-e-Hindostan (Hindi/ Urdu).

Ashok Kaul, a filmmaker from the Mumbai praised the team of KWFF for taking up this initiative. “I believe that films connect the world and this is the best medium to remain connected with the world,” said Kaul.

Bollywood actor of Kashmiri origin Mir Sarwar said that the festival is the best platform to watch the world-class films. “Such films are not easily available on YouTube and but it is a huge thing that you get to watch such films,” said Sarwar.

Veteran filmmaker Aruna Raje Patil said that though I am not from Kashmir but feel for the place. “Kashmir has talented people and this festival is a place to get it nourished and we all should encourage the initiative taken by the organizers,” said Patil.

Festival director Mushtaaque Ali Ahmad Khan said, “I am thankful to students, filmmakers, film buffs who have made this festival a success and that prompted us to hold this festival again”. “We will be screening around 45 films in the seven-day film festival,” he said.

He also thanked print and electronic media for their continuous support.

The organizers have received the films from different countries that include Italy, USA, Iran, Korea, Poland, Turkey, Japan and Nepal. The films are of different languages as well that include English, Italian, Hindi, Kashmiri, Persian, Korean, Assamese, Punjabi, Nepali, Turkish, Marathi, Japanese, Malayalam and Sindhi.

The festival is being hosted by RJ Arooon and RJ Deevangna from FM Tadka. The seven-day festival will conclude on 25th of June.
