SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir received fresh rainfall on Monday as the Meteorological Department forecast more rain until July 23, with yellow and orange alerts issued for several areas.
According to the Meteorological Department, a three-day wet spell is expected across the region. In the last 24 hours, Katra recorded the highest rainfall at 184.2 mm, while Jammu recorded 31.6 mm since Monday morning.
Temperatures across the Kashmir Valley remained above normal. Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 34.9°C. Qazigund recorded 29.0°C, Pahalgam 28.0°C, Kupwara 35.3°C, Kokernag 30.8°C, and Gulmarg 23.5°C.
In contrast, parts of Jammu division experienced a dip in temperature due to rainfall. Several areas in the Kashmir Valley also received fresh rain by evening.
Director of the Meteorological Department, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said that intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places till July 23, with the possibility of intense showers and heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
From July 24 to 27, brief showers are likely at scattered places across the Union Territory.
The department also issued an advisory, warning of the possibility of flash floods in vulnerable locations, along with landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones. A rise in water levels in rivers, streams, and local nallahs, as well as waterlogging in low-lying areas, is also anticipated. (KNO)
