SRINAGAR: A British Royal Navy F-35B Lightning fighter jet, grounded at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, Kerala, since June 14, is now expected to fly out to it’s origin on Tuesday, July 22.
As per Times Of India report, a military transport aircraft from Britain is expected to arrive in Kerala on Tuesday to take back the 14-member expert team that came a few weeks ago to rectify the fighter jet’s defect. The equipment brought to fix the defect in the aircraft’s hydraulic system will also be taken back.
According to several media reports, the team of technicians from the UK repaired the glitch in the aircraft’s hydraulic system and made it functional again.
The Kerala airport is now calculating the parking and land usage fees. “It would range between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 a day. Besides, there would be a fee for land for the fighter jet and the Airbus. It is calculated between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh,” an official said as per Indian Express report. Air India will separately charge for other faculities which may arouse to several lakhs more.
Britian’s F-35B Lightning II, worth over $110 million and known to be one of the most advanced fighter aircraft in the world, made an emergency landing on June 14.
