SRINAGAR: Kuwait temporarily closed its airspace early Thursday following Iranian attacks and growing security concerns in the region, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced.
In a statement carried by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the DGCA said the closure took effect at 4:50 am local time, with all incoming and outgoing flights being diverted to alternative airports until further notice.
The aviation authority said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure in line with established safety procedures to ensure the security of air navigation and passengers amid escalating regional tensions.
According to the DGCA, the closure was prompted by Iranian attacks on Kuwait and the potential risks posed to civil aviation operations. The authority said it is closely monitoring developments in coordination with relevant agencies.
The DGCA stated that Kuwait’s airspace will reopen and normal flight operations will resume once the situation stabilises and the threat is deemed to have passed by the competent authorities.
Passengers and airlines have been advised to follow official updates and comply with all instructions issued by the authorities.
