A long-standing associate of the Kashmir Singers’ Society and a towering figure in the folk and classical traditions of the region, Bulbul was known for his soulful voice, masterful command over the sarangi, and his signature “fol glass” dance performances that captivated audiences for decades. More than just a performer, he was a deeply respected personality whose humility and grace endeared him to generations.

His funeral prayers are scheduled for 10:00 AM today in his native village of Batasum, Dangiwacha, Rafiabad. The Fateha Khwani (special prayers) will be held on June 14 at the same location. He is survived by his son, Sarwar Bulbul, who continues to carry forward his musical lineage.

The Kashmir Singers’ Society, in a statement, described Ustaad Bulbul’s death as “an irreparable loss to the cultural landscape of the valley,” and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

From Berlin, Germany, noted cultural scholar and patron of Adbi Markaz Kamraz, Dr Rafiq Masoodi, former Secretary of the Cultural Academy and former Additional Director General of Doordarshan, shared an emotional tribute. Calling Ustaad Bulbul “a versatile artist par excellence,” Dr Masoodi said the late maestro will be remembered for his unforgettable contribution to the performing arts of Jammu and Kashmir. “It is a huge loss to the art and culture of our land, especially its folk traditions. May he be granted the highest place in Jannah,” Dr Masoodi said.
