According to reports, a seven year old boy namely Naveed Jahangir  S/O Jahangir Ahmad was attacked and killed  by the leopard at  his native village, Manwan, on September 25. People of the area allege that the wildlife department is showing complete inability in controlling the wild animals in the area.

“People here feel insecure every time they leave their houses. Wild animals here have caused terror .we feel completely helpless as the concerned wildlife department seems reluctant in showing any seriousness about the grave issue” said a local while talking to KNS.

The Sarpanch of the Manwan villiage of Kupwara, Mohammad Younis Khan,  while talking to KNS said that the locals here are aghast against the inability of the Wildlife department in the controlling the wild animals in their habitats.  He further said that it has become the real concern for us to think that if the rights have been made for the protection of wild animals, why the authorities are helpless in protecting the precious live of humans from the dangerous animals.

“We request the Government to kindly look into the matter and address the concerns of the people of the area at the earliest”. Sarpanh Mohammad Younis Khan said.

It is worthy to mention here that the movement of wild animals into the civilian areas has become the order of the day in valley and due to this, people from several areas are complaining about the apathy.

Environmentalists believe that the major cause of the infiltration of the wild animals into local population is deforestation and as the natural habitat of wild animals have been lost, they move into the local areas to sustain their living.
