Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani while paying glorious tributes to Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and other people who lost their lives has appealed to mark complete shutdown on February 11.

“The best way to pay tributes to martyrs is that we should strive for the mission and avoid depreciation,” said Geelani in his statement issued from Delhi.

As per statement issued from Delhi, Geelani said that Maqbool Bhat was a pioneer and praiseworthy son, who with his endeavour, not only stood up against the tyranny and forced occupation but even sacrificed his life for the sacred cause.

“After29 years of his martyrdom, we as a nation face several serious issues, which demand our immediate attention”, Geelani said.

Geelani, on Thursday said that thousands of innocent people have laid their lives and continue to offer the same, since the day Maqbool Bhat was awarded death sentence.

“The people who have presented their precious lives include intellectuals, doctors, engineers, lawyers, students and businessmen and we need to deliberate over whether these martyrs while laying their lives have so for formulated or fixed any specified time period and for the matter, did the martyrs have ever decided to defer their struggle to pave way for participation in negotiations,” said Geelani.

As per statement, Geelani said, “definitely it was not their intention, instead they left with a mission and it is our moral obligation to safeguard their sacrifices without exhibition of depreciation and restrain ourselves from any such move which may prove detrimental for the movement.”

While citing precedence from history, Geelani, said that after new world order came into existence, almost all countries had to strive for freedom and still a few movements in world are striving for, but neither target nor any time frame has been fixed and added that Indian independence movement which was started against the British in 1857 culminated at 1947 and in history there is a description that movements were carried for even centuries.

The veteran separatist insisted the nation to reaffirm their stand and commitment and added those who are terrified by the power and might of India need not to celebrate the anniversaries of martyrs or pay tributes to them, and added that it is better to pledge and show commitment for the ongoing movement and unanimously decide to take movement till its logical conclusion.
