SRINAGAR: Member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi on Tuesday visited the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi, where officials briefed him on the Government of India’s preparedness to ensure the safety and possible evacuation of Indian nationals currently stranded in Iran, including several residents from Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials from the Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran Division of the MEA, led by the Joint Secretary, informed the MLA that the government is fully prepared to ensure the safety and security of Indian citizens in Iran amid the evolving situation in the region.
According to the briefing, if required, Indian nationals may be evacuated through a coordinated route via Armenia and Moscow before being brought to New Delhi.
The MEA assured Aga Muntazir that the Government of India, in coordination with its embassies, is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to ensuring the safe return of every Indian citizen.
Officials also urged him to advise Indian nationals currently in Iran not to upload videos or sensitive information on social media, warning that such posts could increase their vulnerability and complicate rescue operations.
Aga Muntazir appreciated the proactive steps taken by the government and expressed hope that all Indians, including those from Jammu and Kashmir, would be safely brought back home if the situation necessitates an evacuation.
