Legislators from both treasury and opposition benches termed the incident deeply concerning and demanded that the attacker be designated a terrorist.

Farooq Abdullah, a former chief minister and national conference president, narrowly escaped the attack on March 11 when a 63-year-old man opened fire at close range as he was leaving a wedding function in the Greater Kailash area of Jammu. The assailant was immediately overpowered and arrested with a revolver.

Police have since formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) to investigate the incident.

During the Assembly session, several National Conference members raised the issue and sought discussion through an adjournment motion. Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather allowed a discussion on the matter, citing its seriousness, while ensuring the smooth conduct of Question Hour.

BJP member Surjit Singh Slathia supported the discussion, describing Abdullah as a prominent political figure.
