According to the Meteorological Department, weather conditions are likely to remain partly to generally cloudy on Wednesday, with light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected at many places, particularly during the afternoon hours.

Director Meteorological Department Mukhtar Ahmad said generally cloudy conditions are expected to persist from June 18 to June 22, with one or two spells of light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, hailstorms, lightning and gusty winds likely at many places across Jammu and Kashmir.

The department further forecast partly to generally cloudy weather from June 23 to June 25, with light rain, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected at a few places.

In its advisory, the MET Department cautioned that intense showers may trigger flash floods and mudslides in vulnerable areas, while isolated hailstorms accompanied by brief but heavy showers could occur during the next five days.

The department also advised residents to avoid loose structures, electric poles, overhead wires and old trees during adverse weather conditions. Orchardists have been urged to undertake spray operations during the early morning hours to minimise weather-related losses.

Officials said thundershowers are generally expected to be short-lived but may be accompanied by strong winds and hail at isolated locations.
