SRINAGAR

The state police chief, a day ahead of the visit of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sunday said there is no specific militant threat in view of the visit of the Prime Minister and the conduction of polls slated for December 9.

Militants on December 5 had carried series of attacks at various places of Kashmir valley during which 21 persons were injured.

The Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra while talking to KNS over phone said they have taken all the necessary arrangements of security for the conduction of Prime Minister’s address in Srinagar on December 8 and for the third phase of polling in JK on December 9.

He remarked that adequate security measures have been taken across Kashmir and in Srinagar particularly for the maintenance of law and order. The DGP said that police is taking adequate steps to avoid any untoward incident.

Over the separatist leadership’s call for strike on Modi’s visit, the police chief maintained that extra security measures have been taken to foil any attempts of law and order disruption in Srinagar. “We are working to thwart any attempts of law and order disruption in the areas which are volatile,” he said.

However, Rajendra said that there will be no restrictions imposed and that the police has prioritized its efforts of not to cause any inconvenience to the general masses. “There will be no restrictions on peoples’ movement but at the same time police has geared up to thwart any law and order disruption,” he said.
