SRINAGAR: A delegation of Members of Parliament on Friday visited Mawar Langate in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the residence of Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid, where they met his family, offered condolences and expressed solidarity with the bereaved household.
The delegation comprised MPs Umesh Bahubhai Patel, Sudhakar Singh and other political leaders from different states. The visiting parliamentarians interacted with family members, party representatives and a large gathering of locals at the residence.
Speaking to reporters, the MPs said there was no shortage of voices across the country who understood the suffering and concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. They stressed that democratic engagement and sustained dialogue were essential for long-term peace and reconciliation in the region.
Leading the delegation, Sudhakar Singh said the people of Kashmir had faced significant hardships and their grievances must be addressed with seriousness, dignity and sincerity. He also acknowledged Engineer Rashid’s interventions in Parliament on issues relating to Jammu and Kashmir.
He further stated that the continued incarceration of Engineer Rashid was weakening the “bridge” between New Delhi and Kashmir, and urged his immediate release to enable him to serve his constituents, who, he said, had placed their trust in him.
The visiting MPs also interacted with residents from various sections of society and assured them that the people of India were not adversaries of Kashmiris. They emphasised that all constitutional commitments forming the basis of the relationship between New Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir must be honoured in both letter and spirit.
The delegation reiterated that dialogue, reconciliation and democratic engagement remained necessary to address the aspirations and grievances of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
