SRINAGAR: A series of fire incidents across Srinagar in the last 24 hours has left several families homeless, as blazes damaged residential structures in Nawa Kadal, Rajbagh, Golden Lake of Dal Lake, and Safa Kadal areas.
In Nawa Kadal, three houses were reduced to ashes in an overnight fire, leaving multiple families without shelter. Locals described the situation as devastating. Bilal Ahmad, a resident of the area, said they could not save anything. “Only the clothes we were wearing are left with us,” he said, adding that everything—including documents and personal belongings—was destroyed in the blaze.
On Sunday night, two residential houses were also damaged in a similar fire incident in Rajbagh. Locals reported hearing explosions before the fire spread rapidly. “We heard blasts and then saw thick smoke. Within minutes, the fire was out of control,” said Suhail, a local resident, noting that despite community efforts, the flames spread too quickly.
Later on Sunday evening, a fire broke out at a residential house in Malik Sahab, Safa Kadal, affecting the first floor. Firefighters managed to control the blaze before it could cause further damage, and no reinforcements were required.
In another incident on Monday morning, a double-storey house at Mir Mohalla, Ghat No. 09 near Golden Lake of Dal Lake, was partially damaged in a fire that started shortly after 10 AM. A prompt response from Fire and Emergency Services helped contain the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby structures.
While no casualties have been reported in any of these incidents, the repeated fires have raised concern among locals. Investigations are underway to determine the causes of the fires. (KNO)
