SRINAGAR: National Conference Additional General Secretary and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra on Wednesday asserted that the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would complete its full five-year term, saying attempts by political opponents to create uncertainty about its stability would be proved wrong.
Addressing a workers’ meeting in Udhampur, organised by District President Sunil Verma, Sadhotra alleged that the BJP was running a campaign to create confusion and mislead the people regarding the stability of the government. He said the Omar Abdullah-led administration enjoyed the trust and support of the people and would continue to function effectively.
Sadhotra said the BJP was trying to create an atmosphere of political instability out of frustration, claiming that the party was facing growing public resentment over what he termed its anti-people policies.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have overwhelmingly reposed faith in the National Conference and its leadership. The mandate was for peace, development, employment and dignity, and the present government is working with commitment and sincerity to fulfil these aspirations,” he said.
The NC leader alleged that many people in the Jammu region who had supported the BJP in the 2024 Assembly elections now felt disappointed as several promises made during the campaign remained unfulfilled. He said attempts to divert attention from these issues through “baseless rhetoric” would not succeed.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives, Sadhotra said measures such as free bus travel for women, provision of 200 units of free electricity to below-poverty-line families, and efforts to create employment opportunities reflected the administration’s commitment to public welfare. He said the government was working towards fulfilling its commitment of providing 25,000 jobs to the youth.
Referring to admissions to higher educational institutions, he said the government’s opposition to making the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) compulsory had provided relief to students and parents by ensuring wider access to education.
Sadhotra said the government was pursuing an agenda focused on development, economic empowerment and social welfare, with emphasis on strengthening infrastructure, improving public services, promoting entrepreneurship and creating opportunities for youth and women.
Calling upon party workers to intensify public outreach, he urged them to take the achievements and policies of the government to every household and counter what he described as misinformation being spread by political opponents.
On the occasion, several prominent individuals joined the National Conference. Sadhotra welcomed the new entrants and expressed hope that their association with the party would strengthen the leadership of Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.
