SRINAGAR: The National Conference (NC) Working Committee met in Srinagar on Wednesday to discuss the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and the escalation along the Line of Control.

The meeting, chaired by NC president Farooq Abdullah, was held at the party headquarters, Nawa-i-Subh. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is the party’s vice president, was also present. The session began with a two-minute silence in memory of those killed in the April 22 attack at Baisaran, Pahalgam.
“JKNC Working Committee meeting was held at party headquarters in Nawa-I-Subh, Srinagar, under the chairmanship of president Dr Farooq Abdullah. Honourable CM Omar Abdullah (@OmarAbdullah) was also present,” the ruling party posted on its X handle.
According to a party statement, the committee unanimously passed seven resolutions.
The first resolution condemned the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people, including a local resident. It also denounced the recent cross-border shelling that claimed the lives of 23 civilians and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
The second resolution reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, stating that it remains central to the aspirations of the people.
In the third resolution, the committee urged the Government of India to immediately restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, referring to past assurances in Parliament and the Supreme Court’s observations.
The fourth resolution welcomed the recent ceasefire announcement and appealed to both India and Pakistan to maintain peace and pursue long-term dialogue to end violence.
The fifth resolution reiterated the party’s commitment to its manifesto and pledged to continue its political and constitutional efforts for the rights of the people through democratic means.
The sixth resolution acknowledged public condemnation of the Pahalgam attack and the local support extended to stranded tourists. It cautioned against arbitrary arrests, harassment of youth, use of bulldozers, and restrictions on media, warning these actions could alienate the public.
The seventh resolution condemned reports of harassment faced by students, traders, and residents of Jammu and Kashmir in other parts of the country. It urged state governments across India to ensure their safety and dignity.
The party said it would continue to raise these issues at all appropriate forums.
