SRINAGAR: In a renewed call for peace in South Asia, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference’s Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, on Saturday, participated in a peace and dialogue conference between India and Pakistan at the India International Centre in New Delhi. The event was organised by the Centre for Peace and Progress, drawing voices from across the political spectrum committed to resolving regional tensions through dialogue.
In his address, Sadiq strongly advocated for sincere and structured engagement between India and Pakistan, calling it the only viable path to lasting peace in the subcontinent. He, however, emphasised that before any meaningful external dialogue can take shape, internal reconciliation within Jammu and Kashmir must be prioritised.
“The National Conference has always stood for peace, dignity, and the constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. “But for any meaningful external dialogue to succeed, there must be a foundation of internal peace and understanding within the region.”
The NC leader further said that the responsibility for establishing a conducive environment for peace rests not on India alone but also on Pakistan, which must take tangible steps to end support for violence and terrorism. Only through genuine and constructive engagement, he said, can Pakistan contribute meaningfully to the peace process.
“Dialogue is not a sign of weakness; it is a reflection of democratic strength and political maturity,” Sadiq noted, reinforcing his party’s belief in engagement over hostility.
The conference brought together academics, former diplomats, political leaders, and peace activists, all of whom echoed the urgency of creating sustained diplomatic pathways between India and Pakistan in the interest of regional stability.
