SRINAGAR: The Jammu Kashmir Government has said that a total of 17,953 posts, 2,960 gazetted and 14,993 non-gazetted, are presently vacant across departments in the Union Territory. In a written reply in the Legislative Assembly, the Government said it has taken “concrete measures” to expedite the process of filling these vacancies through digitised and transparent recruitment systems.
According to the General Administration Department, all administrative departments have been instructed to refer available vacancies to recruiting agencies well in advance and to ensure that procedural bottlenecks are removed. Recruitment processes are being handled through the Jammu Kashmir Public Service Commission and the Jammu Kashmir Services Selection Board with strict adherence to timelines.
The Government said that recruitment has been “completely streamlined” through online applications, computer-based testing, and regular monitoring of each selection stage to ensure transparency and fairness. Periodic reviews are also being undertaken at the highest levels to assess the progress of referrals, advertisements, and selections.
Among departments, the Health and Medical Education Department accounts for the largest number of vacancies, with 5,300 posts unfilled, followed by the School Education Department, which has 7,727 vacancies, and the Public Works (Roads and Building) and Power Development Departments, which together have over 2,500 posts lying vacant.
The Government said that critical vacancies are being prioritised for accelerated recruitment drives wherever permissible under existing rules, reaffirming its commitment to filling posts in a “time-bound and transparent manner.”
