NIA Files Charge Sheet Against Six in Tamil Nadu for Radicalisation and Terror Conspiracy

SRINAGAR: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against six individuals accused of radicalising youth in Tamil Nadu and maintaining contact with Pakistan-based counterparts of Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT). The accused allegedly disseminated HuT newsletters and articles advocating for the secession of Kashmir with military assistance from Pakistan.

In a statement, the NIA detailed that the individuals were provided incendiary materials published by the Central Media Office (CMO) of HuT for distribution.

“As part of the conspiracy, the accused knowingly and deliberately disseminated false anti-national content and engaged in fostering disharmony between groups with the explicit objective of disturbing the national integration, sovereignty and territorial integrity of India,” the agency stated.

The NIA identified the accused as Dr Hameed Hussain, Ahmad Mansoor, Abdur Rahman, Mohamed Maurice, Khader Nawaz Sherif and Ahmed Ali, all residents of Tamil Nadu. The investigation revealed that they were key members of HuT and were involved in organising recruitment drives targeting religious leaders and imams.

The accused were also found to be preparing for terror acts as part of HuT’s broader plan to radicalise youth and establish an Islamic Caliphate in India. According to the NIA, the conspiracy involved enforcing HuT founder Sheikh Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani’s draft Islamic constitution.

This case was initially registered by the Tamil Nadu Police and later transferred to the NIA in Chennai.

Bangladeshi National Sentenced in Separate Terror Case
In a separate case, a Bangladeshi national, Rabiul Islam, was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment by a special NIA court in Kolkata. Islam, a member of the proscribed terrorist organisation Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), was also fined Rs 20,000.

The case has been under NIA investigation since August 2021, following its transfer from the West Bengal Police. Islam was among five individuals charge sheeted in the case, with the agency uncovering his active role in JMB’s conspiracy to carry out terror acts as part of its anti-India agenda.

The NIA revealed that Rabiul infiltrated India to recruit and motivate Muslim youth to wage war against the country.
