Rejecting the claims of fissure in the coalition government over the 73rd amendment in Panchayat Raj, minister for finance and Ladakh affairs, Abdul Rahim Rather on Wednesday said that the coalition government has mutually agreed to incorporate all such clauses of 73rd amendment of Indian constitution in the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Raj Act which will be in the interest of the people of J&K.

Talking to media on the side lines of the inaugural function of government treasuries Awantipora and Achabal, Rather said, “The issue of 73rd amendment has been resolved mutually by the coalition partners and now there is no difference of opinion in this regard”.

“Though due to special constitutional guarantees, the 73rd amendments of the Indian Constitution cannot be applied directly in the J&K Panchayat Raj Act, there is no restriction incorporating good clauses of the amendment in the State Act”, he added.

Rather also appealed employees union to shun path of confrontation for resolving their demands adding that most of their demands have already being fulfilled and other demands are under active consideration of the government. He said government is committed to resolve the genuine demands of the employees with open mind.

Replying to query about LPG issue, Rather informed people that a group of Ministers of the State have met the Prime Minister of India and sought special package to lift the cap on subsidized cylinders keeping in view the harsh winter and difficult topographical condition of the State.

With the opening of Treasuries in Awantipora and Achabal, the total number of Treasuries in the Kashmir has reached to 68 in Kashmir and 123 in the State. Rather said opening of these Treasuries will ease functioning of the 41 drawing and disbursing officers who till now had to travel long distances for cross check of their accounts.
