The Jammu and Kashmir state government Thursday morning said that there is no flood threat although there is huge inundation problem.
Speaking to Kashmir Life, state government spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar, said, “The rain has stopped and as of now there is no flood threat.” However, he added, “there is huge problem of inundation.”
When asked about the government response to water logging problem, Akhtar replied, “We are assessing the situation and mechanical and engineering department shall start dewatering the areas.
“There have been damages in South Kashmir and we are working on how to put things in order,” he said. “We hope that water shall recede now.”
Meanwhile, official sources said that government has decided not to close any educational institute. All the schools, colleges would remain open according to schedule.
Monitoring the situation, reports said that senior cabinet ministers Sukhnandan Kumar and Basharat Bukhari were stationed at Flood Management Control room in Srinagar throughout the night with all the top rank officials.
Meanwhile, reports coming from South Kashmir said that a diversion on a Nallah on Islamabad-Dooru route was damaged flash floods and the people are facing problems to reach their destinations.
“The diversion connecting Dooru with Islamabad via Larkipora too was damaged this morning. The bridge on the Nallah connecting the two areas was damaged in the last year floods and the traffic was plying through this diversion since then,” a local informed Kashmir Life on phone.
He added, “an Indane LPG truck was carried away by flash waters.”
