The J&K Government on Monday released the figures of beneficiaries of “Ladli Beti” and “Beti Bachao, Beti Padao” schemes and the amount allocated for the implementation of the same.
So far, 2,244 cases have been approved at state level, Social Welfare ministry said in response to a question by NC MLC Ali Muhammad Dar. The response revealed that no allocated fund under Ladli Beti scheme has been utilized in any district, so far.
South Kashmir’s Islamabad district has been allotted Rs 13 lakhs against 374 beneficiaries under Ladli Beti Scheme but nothing has been utilized. Similarly, Rs 30 lakh has been utilized against the allocation of around Rs 45 lakh under Beti Bachao Beti Padao scheme, the reply said.
Against approved 700 cases, Pulwama has been allocated amount of Rs 89 lakh, but no fund has been utilized under Ladli Beti Scheme whereas around Rs 31 lakhs has already been utilized out of Rs 56 lakh, under Beti Bachao Beti Padao.
Under Ladli Beti Scheme, Budgam was given Rs 19 lakh, where the registered beneficiaries are 199. However, under Beti Bachao Beti Padao, the central Kashmir district has utilized Rs 56 lakh given to it.
Kathua was allocated Rs 86 lakh under Ladli Beti Scheme against 555 cases, however, it has spent Rs 36 lakh out of Rs 45 lakh under Beti Bachao Beti Padao.
Baramulla, Ganderbal and Rajouri have not been allotted with any funds under Ladli Beti Scheme.
Rs 250 lakh has been allocated under Ladli Beti Scheme, whereas around Rs 366 lakh has been allotted under Beti Bachao Beti Padao Scheme to J&K State.
Ladli Beti Scheme is a state-sponsored social assistance scheme for girl child ‘Ladli Beti’ which is implemented in six districts with low child sex ratio.
It was approved in state Cabinet, which met under the Chairmanship of former Chief Minister late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in 2015. Districts exhibiting low and declining child sex ratio included Kathua, Jammu, Samba, Budgam, Pulwama and Islamabad.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) was launched by Union government in January 2015 addressing the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and related issues of women empowerment over a life-cycle continuum.
It is a tri-ministerial effort of Ministries of Women and Child Development, Health & Family Welfare and Human Resource Development.
The key elements of the scheme include Enforcement of PC & PNDT Act, nation-wide awareness and advocacy campaign and multi-sectoral action in select 100 districts (low on CSR) in the first phase. There is a strong emphasis on mind set change through training, sensitization, awareness raising and community mobilization on ground.
