No Imaginary Line Can Divide Kashmir From Kargil, Omar Tells Delegation

SRINAGAR: A delegation from Kargil district, Ladakh UT, led by Member of Parliament Haji Mohmad Haneefa Jan and former Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon, called upon Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar to congratulate him on assuming office. The delegation, which included Chairman of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon, Executive Councillors, former Ministers, and other representatives, expressed their best wishes for Abdullah’s election victory and the success of his party.

In response, Chief Minister Abdullah thanked the delegation for their warm greetings, saying, “It’s truly heartening to see you here in Srinagar to personally congratulate me. I am deeply grateful that you travelled from Kargil and remote areas of Ladakh to be here.” He went on to emphasise the longstanding and irreplaceable bond between Kargil and Kashmir, stating, “Kargil and Kashmir remain connected through our hearts, and no imaginary line can divide us.”

The delegation raised concerns about Kargil students studying in various institutions across Jammu and Kashmir, prompting the Chief Minister to assure them that a formal meeting would be scheduled soon with senior government officers to address these issues. Abdullah further assured the delegation that MPs from Kashmir would continue advocating for Ladakh’s interests in the Indian Parliament, stating, “Ladakh, especially Kargil, should never feel alone. Kashmir will always voice Ladakh’s concerns on every platform.”

The meeting was also attended by former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, and other prominent leaders, who spoke in support of strengthened ties between Kashmir and Ladakh.

It was not, however, known if the Kargil would see revival of the JKNC. The workers and leaders of the party had mass resigned from the party during Lok Sabha polls to make a unanimous Kargil choice – a JKNC leader, win the poll. It was not immediately known if Omar discussed the party revival.
