Ahead of the chilling winter months in Kashmir, the Power Development Department (PDD) is likely to revise the curtailment schedule within 15 days in a bid to avert major load on the supply.
Chief Engineer PDD Bashir Ahmad Khan told KNS that load in the power supplies for Kashmir valley is getting increased every day and that the department is accessing the ground situation so that, possible, new schedule could be implemented in both metered and non- metered areas of Kashmir valley.
Kashmir, which always complains of reeling under darkness during the winter months is scheduled to witness new curtailment program after 15 days. “If the load increases then we have no option but to issue new schedule of power cuts. At present, load is increasing every day after,” the CE PDD told KNS.
He maintained that the curtailment schedule of last year has already been implemented in Kashmir’s metered and non- metered areas and that the department is striving hard to provide hassle free services to consumers every day. “The hooking and load shedding is the greater cause of concern for all of us. People must understand that by power thefts they are also causing loss to themselves,” Khan said.
He also maintained that around one lakh power meters within three months are coming to valley so that non- metered areas are covered under the metered category. “This will also decrease the load and will pave way for the uninterrupted power supplies to people.”
