The information was provided by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in a written reply to an unstarred question by MP Dayanidhi Maran. Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu said the Centre has sanctioned 5,215 houses for Jammu and Kashmir during the period from 2022-23 to 2024-25, while 19,375 units were completed and handed over to beneficiaries during the same period.

As per the ministry’s data, Jammu and Kashmir saw 266 houses sanctioned in 2022-23, followed by 3,677 units in 2023-24 and 1,272 units in 2024-25. In terms of delivery, 6,622 houses were completed in 2022-23, 3,626 in 2023-24 and 9,127 units in 2024-25, indicating a steady improvement in completion rates.

The ministry clarified that PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0 are demand-driven schemes with no fixed housing targets. States and Union Territories are responsible for identifying beneficiaries, preparing project proposals and executing housing projects, while the Centre provides financial assistance after approval by the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee.

Launched in 2015, PMAY-U aims to provide all-weather pucca houses with basic civic amenities to eligible urban beneficiaries, primarily from the Economically Weaker Section and Lower Income Group categories. Based on implementation experience, the Centre launched PMAY-U 2.0 in September 2024 to support one crore additional beneficiaries nationwide over five years.

At the national level, the ministry informed Parliament that over 122.28 lakh houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0 so far, of which more than 97 lakh have been completed and delivered as of January 22, 2026. The Jammu and Kashmir figures form part of this broader nationwide urban housing effort, the ministry said.
