SRINAGAR: The Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA), Palanpur, has busted a unit manufacturing fake ghee in Mahi village of Vadgam taluka in north Gujarat, seizing 1,513 kg of ghee and adulterants worth Rs 3.67 lakh, according to Times of India report.
The raid took place at Khushbu Enterprise and was conducted by designated officer TH Patel and food safety officer ES Patel. During the inspection on February 9, officials discovered that the unit’s owner, Alamdarali Abbas Ali Sunsara, was producing and selling duplicate ghee without any licence or official approval, the FDCA said in an official statement on Wednesday.
Officials told Times of India that the unit was operating on a large scale, producing ghee using colour, essence, soybean oil, palmolein oil, and vanaspati. The team recovered ghee packed in one-litre containers as well as loose ghee. A substantial quantity of adulterants, including refined soybean oil, palmolein oil, vanaspati, vegetable fat, beta carotene colour, and artificial flavouring agents, was also seized.
Investigators further revealed that the unit was manufacturing cow and buffalo ghee under the “Jainam” brand and distributing it across several states. Eight samples of ghee and adulterants were collected and will be sent to a government food laboratory for testing.
