After a walk out in the legislative assembly early this week, principal opposition of state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) turned to streets today against LPG price hike and minimizing of subsidized cylinders. The protest rally of party workers was led by party president Mehbooba Mufti from party headquarters in Srinagar.
Police however did not allow the rally to go beyond Regal Chowk where Mehbooba sat on the road and demanded immediate roll back of the LPG prices and continuation of subsidy on it.
Holding a placard reading ‘LPG missing’, Mehbooba said “there is a possibility of upheaval during the winter if LPG gets out of reach of the common people. They are already reeling under electricity shortage and will be left with no alternative for fuelling their kitchen”.
Flanked by senior party leader Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Mehbooba asked the state government to take cue from Congress-ruled states like Delhi and increase the number of subsidized cylinders immediately.
She also lamented that the verification process for LPG connections was tedious and resulted in unwarranted hardships for the people of the state.

PDP protesters were shouting slogans against LPG price hike, limiting the subsidized cylinders and the National Conference led coalition government alleging that from the day when NC took the reins of the government price hikes of all the essential commodities have been an usual order.
