Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Itoo said that while pensions are being disbursed on time for most beneficiaries, those covered under the ISSS scheme have been facing delays due to a shortage of funds.

“We will write to the Government of India regarding this matter, as a major share for the scheme, which comes from the Centre, has not yet been fully released,” she said.

The Minister expressed hope that funds would be released soon to address the backlog and ensure that those waiting for pensions receive their dues promptly.

She highlighted that many specially-abled individuals and widows, who rely on these pensions as their primary source of income, face severe difficulties due to the lack of timely financial support. She also noted that the current pension of Rs 1,000 per month is inadequate and that increasing it to Rs 3,000 per month is under active consideration by the government. (KNO)
