SRINAGAR: In its ongoing campaign against the drug menace, the Jammu Kashmir Police have undertaken a series of significant actions across the region, resulting in multiple arrests, property seizures, and the detention of offenders under stringent legal provisions.
Six drug peddlers were arrested across the Kashmir valley in the past 24 hours, and contraband substances were recovered during various operations.
In Srinagar, police apprehended Javid Ahmad Lone of Khargam Pattan near JVC Hospital Bemina, recovering 44 grams of charas. In a separate operation, Nowgam police intercepted Reyaz Ahmed Shah of Check-e-Pahroo at Ganjipora, seizing 39 kilograms of cannabis powder concealed in two nylon bags.
In Ganderbal, a checkpoint at Harran crossing led to the arrest of Zafar Bashir Bhat of Gundirehman, with 40 strips of SpasmoProxyvon-Plus tablets (320 tablets) recovered from his vehicle. The vehicle was seized, and investigations are underway.
Baramulla police arrested two individuals in separate operations. At Janbazpora, Mubashir Ahmad Bhat of Nowpora Jageer Kreeri was found with 121 grams of charas, while at Laghama-Garkote, Mohammad Rafiq Awan of Garkote was caught with 4.2 kilograms of cannabis powder.
In Handwara, police at Kuhroo Bridge detained Hilal Ahmad Tantray of Takiya Langate, recovering 55 grams of charas.
Meanwhile, Srinagar police took a significant step by attaching property worth lakhs of rupees belonging to a notorious drug peddler, Mohd Irfan Sheikh of Pamposh Colony Palpora, under the NDPS Act. The property, including a house and land, was acquired through the proceeds of the illegal drug trade, as established during the investigation of a 2024 case.
In Kupwara, police detained Irfan Ahmad Pir of Wavoora under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act. Pir, involved in a 2021 case, has been lodged in District Jail Bhadarwah.
