In a move to revive the past glory of Post offices in Kashmir, Post Master General (PMG), on Friday, had a walk along with his postman and other officials in Lal Chowk Srinagar and delivered letters. The walk, PMG walk was first of its kind in India but is a known phenomenon in European countries, said PMG Samuel Jhon who has taken the initiative of going ‘good to great’ this year.

While talking about the walk, Jhon said, “It is a new initiative for connecting people of Kashmir where we will be meeting locals on roads, in offices along with the concerned postman.”

The PMG said that it is an initiative to have on spot feedback and witness different things for which people are responding ‘tremendously good’. “So far we met 25 different people who appreciated the walk and were quite happy with our services and revival. They even suggested me of starting the letter collections from every house and I’ll see what can be done”, he said.

After Kashmir, PMG is going to continue with his walk in Jammu and Ladakh and is expecting that the walk will be followed throughout India.

For the revival process, Samuel Jhon said that he has given the project of reviving the old buildings to INTACH Kashmir chapter who will be looking after them now.

For the only floating post office in world which sank some months back, PMG said, “earlier we had a boat on rent which sank but now we have got a new boat and by this summer it will be operational again.”
