SRINAGAR: India witnessed the launch of 257 smart consumer electronic devices during the April-June quarter of 2026, with brands increasingly focusing on premium products, multiple variants and locally manufactured devices, according to a new report released by technology research and consulting firm Techarc.
The India Smart Consumer Electronics Launch Analysis – Q2 2026 tracked launches across smartphones, smart televisions, laptops and tablets, recording 257 launch entries during the quarter. Smart TVs led the market with 113 launches, followed by smartphones with 99, laptops with 38 and tablets with seven.
The report said the most significant trend during the quarter was a decisive shift towards higher-priced devices. The average launch price of smartphones surged to Rs 35,990, marking an increase of around 69 per cent compared to the same quarter last year after two years dominated by budget offerings.
The premiumisation trend extended to other categories as well. Nearly 45 per cent of newly launched laptops were priced above Rs 1.5 lakh, while televisions larger than 65 inches accounted for the biggest share of Smart TV launches at 34.5 per cent.
Rather than introducing entirely new products, manufacturers increasingly relied on launching multiple variants of existing models. Smartphone launch entries rose sharply from 38 in the second quarter of 2025 to 99 this year, but the number of unique models increased only from 38 to 53, indicating brands are expanding their portfolios through different RAM and storage configurations.
Smart TV manufacturers followed a similar strategy by introducing multiple screen sizes for the same product line, while laptops and tablets largely continued to be launched as single-stock keeping units (SKUs).
The report also highlighted growing concentration among leading brands across categories. Realme topped smartphone launch volumes with 12 launch entries from four models. Asus accounted for 52.6 per cent of all laptop launches during the quarter, while Samsung maintained its dominance in Smart TVs with a 29.2 per cent share of launches, nearly three times that of its nearest competitor. In the tablet segment, launches were evenly distributed among five manufacturers, with OnePlus and Motorola each introducing two variants of a single model.
Artificial intelligence and advanced connectivity have become standard features across most new devices, according to the report. Nearly 88 per cent of smartphone launches supported 5G connectivity, while 96 per cent featured displays with refresh rates of 120Hz or higher. Among laptops, almost 79 per cent were certified as Copilot+ AI PCs.
Domestic manufacturing continued to strengthen across the consumer electronics sector. Nearly all smartphones launched during the quarter were manufactured in India, accounting for 99 per cent of launches, while 95.6 per cent of Smart TVs were also produced domestically. Laptops remained the only category with significant dependence on imports, with only 63.2 per cent assembled in India.
Tablet launches declined to just seven during the quarter, but Techarc attributed this to seasonal product cycles rather than weakening demand, noting that 18 tablet launches had been recorded in March alone.
Founded in 2018, Techarc is an independent technology market research, analytics and consulting firm headquartered in Srinagar with operations in Gurugram.
