Raising pro-Khalistan slogans, a Kashmiri Sikh body staged a boisterous protest in Srinagar’s Press Enclave Saturday morning to condemn the desecration of their religious book few days ago in Kotakpur Punjab.
Carrying the effigy of the Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal, the Sikh body Gurmat Taksal (IGS) J&K pitched “Khalistan: Zindabad”, “BJP: Hai, Hai”, “Badal Sarkar: Hai, Hai…” slogans before police dispersed them. They later set the effigy on fire before kicking it to express their rage.
The protesters blamed BJP and RSS for hurting their religious sentiments.
“The Angs (pages) of Guru Granth Sahib Ji were torn and thrown in the streets,” the protesters said. “Some miscreants had stolen the very saroop of Guru Granth Sahib JI in the month of June 2015. The Prakash Govt completely failed to expose and nab the culprits. It hurts the sentiments of Sikhs.”
While appealing both centre and state governments to punish the culprits, the protesters said the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib is now routine work of anti-sikh elements. “We are peace loving community, but provoked to take extreme steps.”
