Demonstrators demanded strict punishment for those involved and lauded the police for acting promptly to address the matter.

The accused have been identified as Tasaduq Hussain Dar alias Haji Tasaduq of Sadoora, Mohd Iqbal Wani alias Iqbal Bumdori of Bumdoora Kokernag, and Mujeeb Ahmad Koka of Shankerpora Dooru. They are alleged to have cheated people through bogus ventures in real estate, fruit trade, and wild garlic (Jangli Lahsun) business.

Victims say they were enticed with promises of high returns but were left empty-handed after parting with large sums of money. One complainant from Kishtwar claimed he lost Rs 55 lakh in a fraudulent wild garlic deal. Similar stories have surfaced from multiple districts, pointing to an organised scam.

The case has been registered under FIR No 126/2025 with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and police are probing the matter as part of an organised racket. Protesters held banners and called for the accused to face the “full force of the law” to deter future financial crimes.

Police have urged other victims to come forward, assuring that every complaint will be addressed. Residents say swift action in this case has restored a measure of trust in law enforcement, but stress that justice must be seen through to the end. (KNC)
