SRINAGAR: The Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) met to address the recent judgement passed by the Jammu Kashmir, and Ladakh High Court. The gathering, attended by representatives from numerous schools operating on community lands, including Kahcharie, Shamilat, and state-owned properties, focused on the implications of the judgement and the steps needed to ensure the uninterrupted education of thousands of students.
The meeting featured Senior Counsel Advocate Zaffar Ahmad Shah as the Chief Guest and other prominent figures such as PSAJK President G N Var, Advocate Asif Feroz, and PSAJK Chief Organiser Shah Gulzar.
The High Court’s judgement, delivered under the guidance of Acting Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan, provided significant relief for private schools on state and community lands, allowing them to continue operations while applying for regularisation or land exchange. This ruling was seen as a lifeline for schools facing uncertainty about their future.
During the conference, Advocate Zaffar Ahmad Shah detailed the legal aspects of the judgement, emphasising the opportunities it presented for schools to secure their land status legally. He explained that schools have been granted a four-week period to submit their applications, with decisions expected within four months, ensuring that education remains uninterrupted during this process.
PSAJK President G N Var underscored the importance of unity and swift action in response to the judgement. He highlighted that this ruling represents a legal victory and a beacon of hope for the thousands of students and their families who depend on these schools for education.
Advocate Asif Feroz echoed this sentiment, emphasising the need for coordinated efforts to comply with the judgement and safeguard the rights of educational institutions in the region.
