SRINAGAR: Police in Punjab have busted a major cross-border arms and drug trafficking network allegedly backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), arresting five key operatives.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Jobanjit Singh and Gora Singh from Rangarh village, Jaspreet Singh alias Motu from Mughal Majri village in Ropar, and Sunny Singh and Shahenshah Singh alias Shalu from Rasulpur Kallar village, reports NDTV.
Police have seized a cache of weapons and contraband, including an AK Saiga 308 assault rifle with two magazines, two Glock 9mm pistols with four magazines, 90 live rounds of AK ammunition, 10 live 9mm rounds, 7.5 lakh in drug money, a car, and three mobile phones.
SSP (Amritsar Rural) Maninder Singh as per Indian Express said, preliminary investigations indicate the accused had direct links with ISI operatives based in Pakistan. The recovered consignment was allegedly intended for Navdeep Singh alias Nav Pandori, a known associate of gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, suggesting a broader nexus between terror outfits and organized crime syndicates.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Lopoke police station under multiple sections of the NDPS Act (21-C, 25, 27-A, 29, 61, and 85), the Arms Act (25, 25(7), 54, and 59), and Sections 111 and 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
