SRINAGAR: The government on Saturday informed the Legislative Assembly that a Rs 4.66 crore Water Supply Scheme (WSS) under AMRUT 2.0 has been launched to augment potable water supply in Magam and adjoining areas of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Replying to a calling attention by MLA Shafi Ahmad Wani, Minister Javed Ahmad Rana said the project involves extension and strengthening of existing intake headworks. He added that Rs 2.17 crore has been released so far, with Rs 0.77 crore already spent, and the project is currently under execution to ensure sustainable water discharge during lean periods.
The Minister said the proposed extension of the off-take point was revised from 1.40 km to 500 metres following concerns from Tangmarg residents, with the decision taken after intervention by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir.
He further informed that parts of Kanihama village are being covered under the Jal Jeevan Mission through the Mazhama Water Supply Scheme, sourcing water from Sukhnag Nallah. The scheme has been completed and is awaiting commissioning, which is expected to reduce dependence on Ferozpora Nallah and improve water supply across Magam and nearby areas.
