Replying to a calling attention motion, the Minister said a three-kilometre cement concrete toe wall has been constructed along existing fencing to prevent wild boars from burrowing into nearby areas, including New Theed village. He added that sanitation and anti-plastic drives are being regularly carried out to eliminate waste that attracts the animals.

A round-the-clock control room has also been established to respond to wild boar sightings, while advisories and awareness programmes are being conducted in fringe villages, particularly for farmers. Regular patrolling and the use of deterrents such as noise guns and firecrackers are also in place.

The Minister stated that wild boar is an invasive species in Kashmir, introduced during the reign of Maharaja Gulab Singh for hunting purposes.

He further informed that the Hangul population in Dachigam has shown a steady rise over the past decade, reaching 323 in 2025, indicating that the increase in wild boars has not impacted its growth.
