SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has one Mega Food Park and seven cold chain projects approved under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana, with a total central grant release of Rs 69.36 crore as of December 31, 2025, according to data tabled in the Lok Sabha on January 29, 2026.
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries informed Parliament that the Union Territory received Rs 29.03 crore as a grant-in-aid for the Mega Food Park and Rs 40.33 crore for cold chain projects aimed at strengthening post-harvest infrastructure, processing and storage facilities in the region. Jammu and Kashmir is among the states and Union Territories where food processing infrastructure has been developed under multiple components of the centrally sponsored scheme.
Official data shows that Jammu and Kashmir has a total of 41 projects approved under various components of PMKSY, of which 30 projects are operational. These include projects under the Scheme for Creation of Infrastructure for Agro Processing Clusters, Creation and Expansion of Food Processing and Preservation Capacities, Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure, Mega Food Park, Food Testing Laboratories, Operation Greens and schemes linked to research, skill development and backwards and forward linkages.
Nationally, the government has approved 41 Mega Food Parks and 402 cold chain projects under PMKSY, with total grants released amounting to Rs 1,515.58 crore for Mega Food Parks and Rs 2,495.53 crore for cold chain projects. The scheme has seen approvals across states such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, with Maharashtra receiving the highest number of cold chain projects at 77 and three Mega Food Parks.
The ministry stated that PMKSY is a demand-driven Central Sector scheme, with funds not allocated state-wise but sanctioned based on project proposals received through Expressions of Interest. As of December 31, 2025, a total of 1,607 projects had been approved across the country under various components of PMKSY, of which 1,196 projects are completed and operational.
According to the government, the completed projects under PMKSY have created processing and preservation capacity of 274.81 lakh metric tonnes per annum and benefited more than 36 lakh farmers nationwide. The ministry also reported that the operational projects have contributed to reducing post-harvest wastage in line with the infrastructure capacity created under the scheme.
