SRINAGAR: Peoples Conference Chief Sajad Lone, criticised the Lieutenant Governor’s budget address in the Jammu Kashmir Assembly, and said that it was indistinguishable from a speech the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would deliver if in power.
“The governors address is indistinguishable from a possible BJP speech, had they been in power. There seems to be total ideological overlap,” he said in post on X.

Lone said the absence of any reference to Article 370, Article 35A, the events of 5 August 2019, or the Reorganisation Act in the address. He accused the National Conference-led government of abandoning even the symbolic mention of these issues, contrasting it with their election campaign, which he said had focused on Article 370 and opposition to the BJP.
“No mention not even remotely of Article 370, Article 35 A. No mention of 5 August 2019. No mention of reorganisation Act. Seems the NC government has finally done away even with ornamentalism. They don’t even want to pretend that have anything to do with Article 370. I remember how during election campaign it was all about Article 370, and how all others are BJP. And now the ideological overlap,” he wrote on X.
He described the address as lacking vision, calling it a “generalised departmental statement” without any new political, social, or economic initiatives. He warned that the government’s approach to governance would be directionless and repetitive, with bureaucrats continuing to dominate decision-making rather than elected representatives.
