Seven Held in Drug Peddling Cases Across Kashmir, Contraband Seized

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested seven persons, including a woman, in multiple anti-drug operations across Kashmir and recovered a significant quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

A police spokesperson in a statement said, “In Baramulla, a police team from Police Station Kreeri intercepted a Baleno vehicle (DL5CN 7586) at a checkpoint in Chek Tappar Kreeri. Upon search, 78 grams and 55 grams of charas-like substances and 125 and 30 strips of Tapentadol HCL were recovered. The accused were identified as Faizan Bukhari, son of Bashir Ahmad Bukhari of Wani Mohalla Kreeri, and a woman from Peer Mohalla Kreeri. Both were arrested and the vehicle was seized.”

“In another operation, Palhallan police intercepted a truck (JK05A-2377) at a checkpoint on NHW Tapper and recovered 250 grams of poppy straw-like substance from the driver, identified as Mohammad Ashraf Kumar, son of Mohammad Subhan Kumar of Braman Rohama. He was taken into custody and the vehicle was seized,” it reads.

In Budgam, a police team from Police Post Narbal, along with an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses, raided a bakery shop “Royal Star” at Narbal Chowk. “During the search, four sticks of charas-like substance weighing 124 grams were recovered. The accused, identified as Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh and Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, both sons of Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh from Sheikh Mohalla Sultanpora Kandi Baramulla, were arrested on the spot. In Awantipora, two individuals were detained by a patrolling team at Padgampora Crossing. They were identified as Faisal Manzoor Reshi, son of Manzoor Ahmad Reshi of Herpora Awantipora, and Mudakir Hussain, son of Mumtaz Ali of Lehra Kalimusta Gool Ramban. The duo admitted to drug consumption and were shifted to a de-addiction centre in Tral, where tests confirmed drug use,” police said.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at the respective police stations, and investigations are underway.

Police have urged the public to remain alert and report any drug-related activity to the nearest police station or by dialling 112.
