SRINAGAR: Residents of Pul Par Kadlabal, New Kadlabal, Zinpora, Khadermoh and adjoining areas have expressed strong concern over a six-hour daily power curtailment imposed on their feeder, urging the local MLA and senior officials of the Power Development Department (PDD) to intervene immediately.
According to residents, the extended curtailment was introduced after a new Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) assumed charge of the area. The department has reportedly attributed the measure to high transmission and distribution losses on the feeder.
However, locals have questioned the justification for the decision, stating that such prolonged power cuts were not imposed in the past and have severely disrupted daily life across the region.
The feeder supplies electricity to a large population across multiple villages, including Pul Par Kadlabal, New Kadlabal, Zinpora and Khadermoh, affecting thousands of consumers. Residents said the curtailment has also impacted the Khadermoh Industrial Area, which houses Magdam plants, sawmills, workshops and other commercial units, leading to reduced industrial productivity and disruption of business activity.
The situation has worsened with the onset of summer, as rising temperatures have increased dependence on electricity for domestic and commercial use. Students, households and small businesses have also been affected due to the prolonged outages.
Residents further stated that most consumers in the area regularly pay their electricity bills, with many households paying between Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000 monthly or more. They clarified that they are not opposed to metering or tariff recovery but object to what they describe as an excessive and unjustified curtailment schedule.
They have urged the MLA and PDD authorities to review the decision and restore a more reliable power supply, particularly during the peak summer season.
The affected residents have appealed for urgent administrative intervention, expressing hope that the authorities will address their grievances and ease the ongoing hardship in Pul Par Kadlabal, New Kadlabal, Zinpora, Khadermoh and adjoining areas.
