SRINAGAR: Six police personnel were suspended for alleged dereliction of duty after three inmates—two Pakistani nationals and a local gangster—escaped from a juvenile facility in the R S Pura sector of Jammu division, according to a report by Daily Excelsior.
The escape occurred around 5.15 pm on Monday when Karajeet Singh alias Gugga, a resident of Dablehar, along with Pakistani citizens Mohammad Suna-ullah and Ahsan Anwar, allegedly attacked on-duty personnel and fled the facility. Two police personnel were injured during the incident. Authorities said an assistant sub-inspector was among the six officials placed under suspension pending a departmental inquiry into security lapses and the circumstances surrounding the escape.
Following the incident, special police teams launched raids at multiple locations as part of an intensified search operation. Police registered a case under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including attempt to murder, assault on a public servant, escape from lawful custody, organised crime, and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Senior officers, including Nalin Prabhat and Bhim Sen Tuti, visited the site, while investigators are examining possible conspiracy angles and how the inmates allegedly obtained a country-made pistol.
A video purportedly showing the gangster firing shots inside the facility circulated on social media, raising public concern. Former DGP S P Vaid questioned the incident, noting that the three inmates were no longer juveniles and suggesting they may attempt to cross the border.
Singh had earlier been arrested in connection with the murder of rival gang leader Sumit Jandiyal alias “Gataru” in Jammu last year and was lodged in the juvenile facility thereafter.
