SRINAGAR: The Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences has modernised its Emergency Operation Theatre by installing advanced surgical equipment, a move aimed at strengthening emergency care and enabling faster and safer life saving interventions, officials said on Saturday.

Authorities said the upgraded Emergency OT has been equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to improve precision and outcomes in high-pressure emergency settings. The modernisation is expected to significantly enhance the institute’s capacity to handle complex emergency surgical cases.
Officials said a C Arm mobile imaging unit has been installed, which will strengthen emergency surgical services by enabling advanced neurosurgical and spine-related procedures. The facility is also expected to enhance precision in orthopaedic and plastic surgery and provide real-time imaging support in coordination with a high-end ultrasound system for better outcomes across specialities.
The Emergency OT has also been equipped with a laparoscopic system, allowing minimally invasive emergency surgeries. Officials said this would help reduce post-operative pain and complications, shorten hospital stays and ensure faster recovery, particularly in acute abdominal and trauma-related emergencies.
The upgraded facility was reviewed and inaugurated in the presence of Director SKIMS and EOSG M Ashraf Ganie, Dean Medical Faculty Showkat A Gurcoo, Medical Superintendent SKIMS Farooq A Jan and Head of Emergency Abrar A Wani.
