SRINAGAR: A student from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir has secured a fully funded fellowship to pursue a PhD in Agriculture at the University of Guelph.

Bisma Majid, a master’s student from the Division of Plant Pathology at SKUAST-K, has received an official offer of admission to the Doctor of Philosophy programme in Plant Agriculture at a Canadian university.
She is scheduled to begin her doctoral studies in September 2026 with a full scholarship package extended by the University of Guelph.
According to the university, admission includes a guaranteed minimum funding package for four years, covering 12 semesters, in the form of a Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA). The research stipend will be provided by her doctoral advisor at Guelph, Dr Jay Subramanian.
In addition, Bisma has also qualified for the highly competitive International Doctoral Tuition Scholarship (IDTS), adding further distinction to her academic achievements.
Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-K, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, congratulated the scholar and described the achievement as a proud moment for the university. He said the selection reflected the academic excellence and research-oriented environment being fostered at the institution.
Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Dr Raihana Habib Kanth, and Head of the Division of Plant Pathology, Dr Anwar Ali, also congratulated the student and wished her success in her future academic pursuits.
Bisma Majid expressed gratitude to her teachers and mentors, including Dr Najeeb Mughal, Dr Sajad Majeed Zargar and Dr Latief Ahmad, for their guidance, mentorship and encouragement throughout her academic journey.
