SRINAGAR: Police said the militant killed during an encounter in Tantray Pora village of Kulgam district was an operation based on specific in puts.

On specific input, a joint team of Police Kulgam and 62 Rashtriya Rifles laid an ambush to trap the dreaded LeT militant, the spokesman said. He tried to escape and fired indiscriminately.  He died in the retaliatory fire.

The slain militant was identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Padder son of Abdul Rehman Padder resident of Manchewa Yaripora of Kulgam.

The spokesman said Padder was involved in the brutal killing of 22-year-old Army officer Umar Fayaz in Shopian. The newly commissioned Lieutenant Umar Fayaz was abducted and killed by LeT in May, when he was attending a wedding of relative in Shopian.

Ishfaq Ahmad Padder was also involved in bank robberies at Kader branches of J&K Bank and Ellaquai Dehati Bank. Besides, he was also involved in firing incident on Police Station Yaripora, the spokesman said, adding they recovered an AK 47 rifle, two AK 47 magazines, 42 AK 47 rounds and 01 pouch from his body.

Meanwhile, the slain cop Krishen Chand who was killed in a Lashkar attack on a police bus was laid to rest in Jammu.

Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and Minister for PHE, Flood Control and Irrigation Sham Lal Choudhary paid tributes to the Head Constable Krishan Chand who was killed in Pantha Chowk attack in Srinagar. The wreath laying was held at DPL Jammu.

Legislators Sat Sharma, Rajesh Gupta and Davinder Singh Rana, Divisional Commissioner Jammu M K Bhandari, IGP Dr  S D  Singh, DIG Ashkoor Wani, Deputy Commissioner Kumar Rajesh Ranjan besides other senior officers of civil and police administration also paid homage to the cop.

The Deputy Chief Minister paid rich tributes to the Jawan for his bravery and valour and conveyed sympathies with the bereaved family.

D S Rana said in a statement that he also laid a wreath at the mortal remains of Head Constable Krishan Chand. He also gave his shoulder to the tricolor bedecked coffin of the slain cop, before the body was taken to his native place in Village Challana Sangar in Nagrota Assembly Constituency for last rites. Rana consoled the bereaved members of the family and relatives who were present at the DPL, saying no words were enough to lessen the grief.
